Welcome to Caithness Rare Breeds

Caithness Rare Breeds has been established to preserve the livestock and wildlife native to the Highlands & Islands of Scotland. Working closely with the Rare Breeds Survival Trust (RBST) and other conservation groups we are aiming to increase the numbers of those animals currently listed on the RBST watchlist of animals in danger and to help protect native scotttish wildlife that are in need of our help. We are also working to establish a wildlife hospital within Caithness to help with injured animals in need of some care with the ultimate aim of returning them to the wild or providing them with a new home.

The Smallholder Series - Practical Guides for the Serious Smallholder

"Sheep on Your Smallholding", presented by Adam Henson, is the first series of DVDs from The Smallholder Series.  These inspirational programmes will guide you through the shepherd's year, including expert advice on a range of subjects including grassland management, creating a Flock Health Plan, fertility and reproduction, and marketing your home-reared produce.  The series is fully 'hands on' and features demonstrations with experts in sheep health and husbandry, and case studies of real people who have made a success of small-scale sheep farming.

Programmes are supported by a dynamic web site www.smallholderseries.co.uk providing continuous added value content to the DVD series, seasonal expert articles, and up-to-date information on a variety of subjects from legislation to livestock.

During 2010, we will be filming the next two series:  "Pigs on Your Smallholding", and "Poultry on Your Smallholding"
